Sunny was the kind of pup who found good in every situation; no matter how grim it may have seemed. The youngest of him litter, Sunny was often left to his own devices as his elder-by-seconds siblings wandered off to do "grown up" things. He supposed being the youngest wasn't so bad, except for the fact that he was left alone most of the time. Despite that, he was certainly their mums favorite; and their dad even had a soft spot for him. You could say Sunny had the ideal life. His mother and father were deeply in love, his siblings all acted how older siblings should, and he had the brightest disposition of any pup around. But, like very life, tragedy would soon strike; and his first would strike close to home.
He wasn't the only one who noticed it. His father distancing from their little pack. He heard his sisters and brothers whispering about it in their little "adult pup" grove. Sunny could see his mom growing depressed, folding in on herself. They all were thinking the same thing. Their dad, who had once loved them so, had found a new mate. Sunny just couldn't wrap his head around it, so on one of the many afternoons that his father left; Sunny followed. He knew seeing his pop with another family would break his heart, but at least he would finally know.
What happened, though, was very far from the predictions of himself and his siblings. His father simply went to a lonely clearing, laid down, and cried. Sunny approached him, as any concerned youngster would do, and asked him what was going on. His father looked up at him, and through sobs whispered; "Your mother is dying, my son."
Their mother, who held the family together, was dying; and none of them could fix it. Suddenly, everything made sense; his father pulling away, his mother collapsing. When they were going to tell the pups, Sunny wasn't sure; but he did know they had betrayed a little bit of his trust.
In the end, his mom did pass; and after that the family fell apart. His siblings strayed, his dad too, and Sunny was left alone in their once comforting home. He decided not to stay and took the blue collar, which belonged to his mom, with him when he left. He ended up in Cobalt over a series of unfortunate events, and decided to stay due to the kindness of those who found him half dead.
